Process at Salvini, I would prefer YES!

I think that Matteo Salvini should be tried, just as he declared he wanted to do until a few days ago. But now he has changed his mind and asks the Senate to reject the request for authorization to proceed against him for the famous story of the ship Diciotti. Someone must have explained to him that in the face of the risk of a conviction, it was better to resist the temptation to campaign in a courtroom. The m5s had first expressed a willingness to vote yes to the authorization to proceed. Now that Salvini has backtracked, he takes time and seems to have changed his mind. What would I do if I was a senator? I ask him and the answer is not easy. I understand the political reasons that motivate the no: keep the coalition of government united. And even those tactics: do not give Salvini the pretext to decide the tear and at the same time a deadly election campaign topic. The formal justifications that will be declared in support of the “no” do not escape me either: it was an act of the whole government, aimed at defending the general interest.
However, I think that COHERENCE must prevail in politics. And for this, I would vote yes. For three reasons:
1 politics can not arm itself in impunity, in democracy, everyone must respond to justice
2 Salvini in that and other moments used migrants at sea as “political hostages”, forcing laws
3 the no of the m5s is not just a turnaround but it would be perceived as an act of subordination to the governmentally.

Un abbraccio da New York
