Oggi 10 dicembre 2018 la Dichiarazione Universale dei Diritti dell’uomo compie 70 anni. Fermiamoci un momento a rileggerla o a leggerla per la prima volta con l’attenzione che merita. È il nucleo di ogni democrazia possibile, la madre di ogni Costituzione presente e futura. Una moderna magna charta dei diritti della persona, oltre i confini degli Stati e il flusso delle generazioni, che pone la dignità umana a fondamento della libertà, della giustizia e della pace fra i popoli. 70 anni dopo, per molti aspetti si rivela un libro dei sogni, ma rimane uno dei momenti alti dell’avventura umana, il testo di riferimento per cambiare il mondo. Long live the Universal Declaration
of Human Rights (70 years later)!
Today, December 10, 2018, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights turns 70. Let’s pause for a moment to reread it or read it for the first time with the attention it deserves. It is the core of every possible democracy, the mother of every present and future Constitution. A modern Magna Charta of the rights of the person, beyond the borders of States and the flow of generations, which places human dignity at the foundation of freedom, justice, and peace among peoples. 70 years later, in many respects, it turns out to be a dream book, but it remains one of the high moments of the human adventure, the reference text for changing the world. All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with a reason of conscience and must act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
